About Bautzen
Bautzen could easily be called "The town of towers" because it has not less than 17 medieval towers. Everything has been carefully planned and carried out with the greatest respect for the rich cultural heritage in the city’s the old town where many of the colorful houses still have rich Baroque ornamentation. In this more than 1000-year-old town visitors can find numerous museums, churches and galleries. It seems a real shame and injustice that this picturesque town was formerly best known for its prisons, Bautzen I and Bautzen II. Today, Bautzen I is still in use, and Bautzen II serves as a memorial.
