The village of Steingaden might seem as an average, not so special hamlet if it wasn’t for the Wies Church. This pilgrimage church, standing in pastoral setting in the foothills of the Alps, is considered as the masterpiece of Rococo architecture in Germany today and once you enter, you will immediately understand why. The extraordinarily well-preserved plaster-work in blue and gold, a plethora of playful cherubs, the divine marble, frescoes, stucco works and statues that seem alive all together form the most incredible interior.
