About Palazzo Ducale

High quality hoto of Palazzo Ducale - Italy

The current appearance of this superb palace is the merit of Duke Francesco I d'Este who transformed the old medieval castle into a Ducal summer residence in 1634. Palazzo Ducale is also known as “Delizia” (delight) for its architectural and decorative richness. Everything about this palace is impressive, but especially the rich 17th century frescoes by French artist Jean Boulanger and the magnificent Peschiera, a fish tank that resembles a ruined amphitheater. It takes about an hour to finish the well-informative guided tour.
