Montenegro

Imagine a monastery standing on the very edge of a beautiful waterfall. Now imagine the gardens surrounding this monastery full of fruits, vegetables and busy... beehives. Now add to this picture the 13th century frescoes that cover the monastery’s interior. This is the picture of Moraca Monastery. However, it is far better in reality so we encourage you to take a short drive if you are in Podgorica area. The monastery itself will give you an unforgettable experience if you visit it.

Saint Petka Church
Montenegro

75 min

From its first days in the 14th century, this church was like no other, mostly due to its two simple and yet so elegant altars.... During the civil war in the turn of the last century, the Catholic one was thrown out to demonstrate the political changes about to happen. After 5 years of difficult warfare, the folk succeeded in convincing the government to return the second altar to signify their religious tolerance. There is also a nearby castle to complete any of your touristic preferences.

Quality photo of Stopica Cave - Serbia

Stopica Cave
Serbia

90 min

The entrance to this small but amazing cave is huge, one of the largest cave entrances in Serbia. Although the cave itself is not so... big and it takes a short tour to explore it, it does have some amazing rock formations as well as the 9 meters tall waterfall called the ‘Source of Life’. The cave is divided in 5 sections: the Light Hall, the Dark Hall, the Great Hall with Pools, the Channel with Pools and the River Channel. The biggest attractions are the cascading “bigren” tubs made of limestone and filled with water and a sipar arch known as the “Dog’s cemetery”.

Avala Tower
Serbia

75 min

At the time of its completion in 1965, the Avala TV tower was the fifth tallest self-supporting building in the world. A few decades later... however, its glory was brought to a halt due to a NATO air strike that got the whole of Belgrade on its feet. Fast forward five years and many fundraising events have been held and the site was finally cleared and crowned with a new tower to commemorate the lost one. It was reopened in 2008, again being the tallest construction in the Balkans. Besides modern elevators and many contemporary technologies, it’s also important to note that the tower does not stand directly on the ground – instead its base is formed by a tripod to symbolize the Serbian tripod chair.

Kosmaj Monument
Serbia

60 min

In the second half of the last century, the former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito had glorious monuments made in order to commemorate the unity... and vigor of the nation in the tragic World War II. They were quite futuristic for their time, massive, even brutal in their rigid and yet so beautiful steel appearance. They were stationed all over the country and still represent a well-known theme. This particular monument is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Kosmaj partisan detachment and represents a communist party that revived the area after the tragic losses during the times of warfare.
