After... many centuries of changing owners and going through difficult conditions, this late medieval castle finally became heritage of the autonomous province of Bolzano in 1996. Soon after that, famous Italian alpinist Reinhold Messner, opened in Sigmundskron Castle the Mountain Museum with distinctive collection of artifacts, art and religious objects all dedicated to mountaineering. The museum gives an insight into the importance and significance of mountains for humans.
