It started as a 13th century Gothic castle; it... was rebuilt in Renaissance style in 17th century, in Baroque style in 18th century and finally in 19th century it became a Classicist style palace. Once in a while, the German Emperor William II used to reside in this palace during the WWI and his “Royal apartments” are fully fitted with restored original furniture. Besides his rooms, visitors can also explore the apartments of Princess Daisy, English lady who married Polish Prince Hans Heinrich XV, and who lived here from 1891 to 1943. In the lower level of the castle is a great collection of armory.

On August 31, in 1939, the Germans staged a fake Polish attack on Gleiwitz radio station and this was later used as justification for invading Poland. It is today the only remaining wooden radio tower built before World War II and it features museum where visitors can learn all about radio history.
