Holasovice is a hamlet of outstanding value because it is a great example of well preserved traditional rural settlement in central Europe and it is... surely the most charming village in the whole of the Czech Republic. Despite the fact it was at one point completely abandoned, the village has retained the same number of buildings during the 800 years of its existence. The village features 17 farms with barns and stables, a blacksmith’s, two taverns and the small Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. Holasovice has 140 inhabitants that are proud of their unspoiled village and are happy to show visitors what rural life was like until the 1st half of the 20th century. The imposing Teplá abbey complex is a national historic landmark. It was founded in 1193 by the beatified Bohemian nobleman Hroznata. The Tepla Monastery underwent... numerous renovations and even today some parts of the abbey are under reconstruction. The dominant feature of the monastery complex is the Romanesque-Gothic Church of the Annunciation. However, the crown jewel of the monastery is the monastic library with the second biggest monastic collection in the Czech Republic. Of great value is also the church’s high altar that was sculpted in 1750. The church also features Hroznata’s reliquary casket.
