Tvrdos Monastery
Bosnia and Herzegovina

One should visit Tvrdos Monastery for at least two amazing reasons: the beautiful 15th century Serbian Orthodox Monastery and the wine the monks produce here.... The Monastery is built on foundations of the Roman Church dating all the way back to the 4th century. The church has a glass floor, which is like a “window to past” because through it, foundations of the old Roman church can be seen. As for the wines, it is enough to know that today the monks produce world’s award-winning wines. Private tours of the church and its beautiful garden as well as the wine cellars are available.

Stopica Cave
Serbia

The entrance to this small but amazing cave is huge, one of the largest cave entrances in Serbia. Although the cave itself is not so... big and it takes a short tour to explore it, it does have some amazing rock formations as well as the 9 meters tall waterfall called the ‘Source of Life’. The cave is divided in 5 sections: the Light Hall, the Dark Hall, the Great Hall with Pools, the Channel with Pools and the River Channel. The biggest attractions are the cascading “bigren” tubs made of limestone and filled with water and a sipar arch known as the “Dog’s cemetery”.

Nature Park Mokra Gora
Serbia

Nestled between the mountains of Tara and Zlatibor lies the Mokra Gora Nature Park and its turbulent landscape is the eternal source of inspiration and... serenity. Steep valleys and the gorges of the rivers Beli Rzav, Crni Rzav and Kamicka Reka are in beautiful harmony with numerous peaks and passes. The highlight of this nature park is Drvengrad, an enchanting ethnic village created by Serbian film director Emir Kusturica for his movie “Life Is a Miracle”. Authentic log cabins are dotted around a rectangular plaza with a small wooden church at the other end. Another attraction not to be missed is the train ride on the Sargan Eight, a 12km part of the narrow-gauge heritage railway.

Avala Tower
Serbia

75 min

At the time of its completion in 1965, the Avala TV tower was the fifth tallest self-supporting building in the world. A few decades later... however, its glory was brought to a halt due to a NATO air strike that got the whole of Belgrade on its feet. Fast forward five years and many fundraising events have been held and the site was finally cleared and crowned with a new tower to commemorate the lost one. It was reopened in 2008, again being the tallest construction in the Balkans. Besides modern elevators and many contemporary technologies, it’s also important to note that the tower does not stand directly on the ground – instead its base is formed by a tripod to symbolize the Serbian tripod chair.
