Places you can visit along the way

Quality photo of Erfurt - Germany

Erfurt
Germany

Erfurt is a city of such extraordinary variety and the best thing to do is just let go and allow the city to guide you.... The city is almost all a pedestrian zone so it’s easy to wonder through the cobblestone streets and admire the colorful architecture, lively street cafes, craft shops and art galleries. If you have time to spare, check out the fortress on the Petersberg Hill which can be visited on a guided tour.

Germany is a country of beautiful castles. But besides its beauty, Eisenach castle is special for the fact that here Martin Luther sought shelter from... 1521 to 1522 and it was here he translated the bible into German. The intact remains of Luther’s study, various items from his possession and unique Cranach portraits are available for visitors to see at the Wartburg castle and its museum.

Surrounded by the moat filled with the Wuerschnitz River, this scenic castle seems like floating in the air. Part of the 16th century castle was... wonderfully transformed into a hotel and a restaurant that boast in charming atmosphere. Besides the castle buildings, visitors can also visit an arts and crafts studio in the park, and for those searching for some sport activities there are attractive walking trails and a golf course.

Fulda
Germany

75 min

The pleasant ambience of Fulda coupled with cobbled streets, small squares, monumental balustrades and graceful architecture of the half-timbered houses still evoke to great extent... a feel of past times. But for genuine architectural and religious delight, visitors should visit the Fulda Cathedral. This majestic structure built in the beginning of 1700 tremendously resembles St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, although smaller and less ostentatious. St. Boniface and King Conrad I of Germany are both buried here.

Quality photo of Jena - Germany

Jena
Germany

75 min

Whatever your taste, you will be sure to find it in the picturesque and diverse town of Jena. The diversity is reflected in a beautiful... mix of contemporary buildings that stand next to well preserved and still in use medieval structures, in numerous parks, narrow winding streets and quaint boutiques. The best place to buy souvenirs is the market; the best museum is the Optical Museum; the best viewing point is the extraordinary Jen-Tower that soars into the sky. Many prominent persons had fell in love with this city and lived here for certain time, like Goethe, Schiller, Martin Luther and Karl Marx. You can hike to the gorgeous mountains that surround the city or you can enjoy the rich social and cultural scene in Jena. And we could just go on and on and on…

Quality photo of Buchenwald Memorial - Germany

Buchenwald Memorial
Germany

75 min

Buchenwald concentration camp was established in 1937 and eventually became the largest concentration camp in Germany. The memorial site is a synonym of the atrocities... committed by the Nazis during the WWII. The whole complex is quite large comprising of two actual original buildings including the crematorium and the prison, the footprints of all the buildings that stood at the camp, memorial areas and three museum/exhibition areas. There are personal stories and artifacts on display so visitors can actually touch and feel the worst of mankind. This site is extremely moving and filled with sober atmosphere. Although is not an easy place to visit but surely a must do for so many reasons, the remembrance of the unspeakable crimes should never be forgotten.
