Strecno Castle
Slovakia

60 min

The location of the Strecno Castle is just as dramatic as it 700 years long history. Set on a spectacular limestone cliff the castle dominates... the Vah River and its surroundings. As an important strategic stronghold the castle was always a symbol of feudal power in the region. It has been in ruins for more than 350 years but today it is partially restored so visitors can witness its glorious days and explore the 15th century chapel, the 14th century main tower, and the remains of the north palace. The castle is situated on the top of 103 meters tall rock so be prepared for a moderately steep walk up the hill. Please note that the castle is closed from December to March.

Pszczyna Castle
Poland

Achingly beautiful Pszczyna Castle is the result of many refined reconstructions during the course of centuries. It started as a 13th century Gothic castle; it... was rebuilt in Renaissance style in 17th century, in Baroque style in 18th century and finally in 19th century it became a Classicist style palace. Once in a while, the German Emperor William II used to reside in this palace during the WWI and his “Royal apartments” are fully fitted with restored original furniture. Besides his rooms, visitors can also explore the apartments of Princess Daisy, English lady who married Polish Prince Hans Heinrich XV, and who lived here from 1891 to 1943. In the lower level of the castle is a great collection of armory.

Tychy Brewery can be described in many superlatives. It is Poland's most famous brewery that produces over 8,000,000 hectoliters of ale ever year; it produces... 14 varieties of beer; and most importantly – it has been brewing beer continuously for nearly 400 years. To sum this all up, it has a museum with an array of displays, including a 3D cinema and various multimedia exhibits. The tours of the brewery must be arranged in advance but the museum is open without prior reservations.
