Before that, from 13th to 15th century this was a noble residence belonging to the bishop of Krakow. In the coming centuries it was severely damaged several times so it was finally abandoned in 1800. Visitors can freely explore the grounds, halls and tower.

On August 31, in 1939, the Germans staged a fake Polish attack on Gleiwitz radio station and this was later used as justification for invading Poland.
