Dating all the way back to the glorious Roman times, the town of Novara has suffered multiple downfalls only to come out on top each... time. Fortunately, not all of its architecture was destroyed during many sackings that took place, so visitors can still enjoy an array of historical styles. There is the Town Museum and the Novara Museum of Modern Art, along with a unique set of buildings often called as the Broletto. And after all those worldly structures, tourists can enjoy a 19th century cathedral with many marvelous artwork and an awe worthy 5-6th century baptistery.

Does one honestly need more reasons to visit Portofino than just one look at this quaint little village? Although today it has developed into a... luxury summer resort of international jet-setters, it has preserved the atmosphere of the fishing village it once was. And it is well worth an afternoon visit and "un bichierre di vino" in front of this calm bay.

Vercelli
Italy

First originating from the pre-Roman Libici tribe, the town often changed its ruling hand until finally suffering the same fate as the Savoy domains. It... is a true artistic center of the region, holding many churches and museums sure to make anyone’s heart stop with their marvellous construction. The 13th century Basilica di Sant’Andrea is considered an architectural masterpiece in its own right, embellished with a unique façade made from several types of stone. The church’s inside is no exception, with a Lombard fresco depicting the funeral of abbot Thomas Gallus as well as a painted crucifix. There is also the Borgogna Museum with stunning artwork from the time of the Renaissance.

Casale Monferrato Cathedral
Italy

A long time took for this cathedral to be completed, and for a good reason – the narthex is unique in Italian context due to... the Armenian and Islamic features. Inside its walls there is a vibrant contrast between Gothic and Romanesque architectural features. Next to the marble rendition of Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy, there is an elegant column with the monogram of Christ, signifying the location where St. Evasio was martyred. The legend says you can even hear the flow of his blood if you press your ear hard enough against the column. This is truly a unique mixture of many artistic styles and preferences – from a medieval crucifix crowned with silver foils all the way to a Baroque high altar, a rococo choir and many textile artefacts.

Even if you are not much of an architectural or religious devotee, you will appreciate a visit to this Neo-Gothic church for the exhilarating views... of the surrounding mountains descending into the sea. The basilica was built in 1558 and renovated in 1896 when its current white marble facade was added. The interiors are decorated in gold and marble but the most interesting feature of the church is a small Byzantine painting of Virgin Mary which is said to be a gift from Saint Mary herself.
