Before the WWII 2,200 Jews lived in Lucenec and... due to this big community the city featured 5 synagogues. Less than 100 Jews survived the war in Lucenec, and today only 14 live here still. The town’s last synagogue, built in 1926, was disused for many years and only recently completely renovated to become a multifunctional cultural center.
