Zelena Hora Monastery
Czech Republic

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelena Hora is an extraordinary church that has a 5 point star structure and thus it has... 5 entrances, 5 altar niches, 5 chapels, 5 stars and 5 angels on the high altar. The symbol of 5 is linked to 5 wounds of Christ on the cross and five virtues of the martyr St John of Nepomuk. The church was built in 1720 in Baroque in style, but has many Gothic elements, while the interior is quite minimalist that evokes mysticism. Due to its unique architecture the church was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994.

Chrudim
Czech Republic

Dating back to the 13th century, Chrudim quickly gained a reputation of a dowry town for the Bohemian Queens. Its repute got a noble taste,... as it was known as the ‘royal town’. With the First industrial revolution and a seemingly small shoe factory, the population flourished beyond the historical borders of a small town from the middle ages. It was soon declared the region’s Athens due to the number of schools and cultural events held there. There is still a neo-Gothic theme to the predominantly medieval Ressel’s Square and the center’s Church, along with a Baroque plague monument to add some of its flare to this already interesting mixture of styles and cultures. There is also a rather unique puppet museum that is held under the UNESCO’s protection as an absolute must-see entertainment for all passing visitors.

Namest nad Oslavou Castle
Czech Republic

75 min

Dating from the 15th century, this monumental castle is a fine example of the Renaissance architecture in Moravia. Namest nad Oslavou Castle was originally built... on the ruins of a 13th century fortress by the Moravian lords of Zierotin and to this day is preserved almost unchanged. The walk through the history is available through the tour that takes visitors in the castle rooms furnished with historical furniture and decorated with precious paintings and tapestries. Although the castle chapel is notable for its design, it is the library that is the most unique part with a rich selection of books and a beautifully frescoed barrel ceiling. There is another tour available, one that takes visitors to the private apartments of Haugwitz family, who owned it in the 19th and 20th century.

Following the political changes of the time and place, the monastery hasn’t stayed the same from the time of its construction in the 13th century.... The rich heritage of its heavy walls possesses the characteristics of Gothic and Baroque architecture with a nearby museum as a cherry on top of this truly magical historical experience.
