When it was first built, in 12th century, Rocca Sanvitale was just a humble tower, but after the extensions made by the Sanvitale family, it... became an extraordinary noble residence. The castle is accessed via a small bridge because it is completely surrounded by a deep water ditch. A guided tour is required to see the interior furnished with 16th, 17th and 18th century furnishings, antique armory and china. The most famous parts of the castle are the frescoes by Parmigianino and an optical chamber, where mirrors project a view of the town onto a wall.
