All... these buildings were authentically renovated and 22 are fully furnished and open to public. The genuine ethnographic exhibition provides a valuable insight to traditional building and living culture throughout Slovakia. Visitors will find here a yeoman homestead from 1748, an oil production facility, an inn dating back to 1811, and a wooden Roman-Catholic church from 1792.

Demanovska Cave of Liberty
Slovakia

105 min

The astonishing Demanovska Cave of Liberty extends 8,126 meters into the mountains, out of which around 2 kilometers are available for tourists so the whole... tour takes about 1 hour. Within its long tunnels visitors can marvel astonishing stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes, colors and sizes, a few underground turquoise lakes but the most impressive certainly is the Great Dome, 41 meters high and 75 meters long. Heads-up: it’s cold in the cave, bring something warm to wear!

Strecno Castle
Slovakia

60 min

The location of the Strecno Castle is just as dramatic as it 700 years long history. Set on a spectacular limestone cliff the castle dominates... the Vah River and its surroundings. As an important strategic stronghold the castle was always a symbol of feudal power in the region. It has been in ruins for more than 350 years but today it is partially restored so visitors can witness its glorious days and explore the 15th century chapel, the 14th century main tower, and the remains of the north palace. The castle is situated on the top of 103 meters tall rock so be prepared for a moderately steep walk up the hill. Please note that the castle is closed from December to March.

Vlkolinec Village
Slovakia

60 min

Vlkoklinec was granted UNESCO status for the mainly intact folk architecture with artifacts dating back to the 15th century. One might say that in Vlkoklinec... time stands still and the traditional tools, artwork, crafts, and old-style kitchens will immediately take visitors back in past, when life seemed so much simpler. This remarkably untouched settlement consists of 45 wooden houses and outbuildings of which 2 have been converted to museums. To fully experience the past times, do try the local delicacy — warm, homemade poppy seed nut roll in the village store.

It is... enormous; one of the biggest in this part of Europe, and it had an important role in time of Turkish attacks. Visitors can explore on their own the fortification, the towers and the gardens but for furnished rooms guided tours must be taken. These tours are in Slovak while English tours must be prearranged.

Beckov Castle
Slovakia

60 min

Standing proudly on a steep 50 m tall rock, Beckov Castle is remarkably accompanying its natural setting. Even though the monument has fallen into ruin... today it is still frequently visited by tourists as it offers an important insight into the history of the castle and the entire region. It is equally interesting for all ages – children will love the puppet show in the lower castle grounds and for the adults there are few exhibits of defensive weapons like full-size medieval catapults and cannons. The castle features a cafe, a museum and a souvenir shop. No guided tour is needed as visitors receive a nice and informative pamphlet in English.
