Places you can visit along the way

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro
Italy

75 min

Even if you are not much of an architectural or religious devotee, you will appreciate a visit to this Neo-Gothic church for the exhilarating views... of the surrounding mountains descending into the sea. The basilica was built in 1558 and renovated in 1896 when its current white marble facade was added. The interiors are decorated in gold and marble but the most interesting feature of the church is a small Byzantine painting of Virgin Mary which is said to be a gift from Saint Mary herself.

Bay of Silence
Italy

75 min

The Bay of Silence is located in the small town of Sestri Levante. It is a pretty magical place with golden sandy beaches, verdant vegetation... and colorful houses that line its coast. The one thing you will notice in Sestri Levante are the “gozzi”, typical fishing boats of this region. The best way to end a beautiful day in this perfect little gem is to stop at one of the many little restaurants, scattered among the alleys and taste the local cuisine and a glass of prosecco.

Chiavari
Italy

105 min

Chiavari is a city that will amaze you with its rich cultural heritage. A pre-Roman necropolis from the 7th century BC was discovered in Chiavari... while the charming streets of the historic center date from the Middle Ages. This old center is dotted with Genovese style palazzi, Renaissance buildings, fountains and gardens. The much-admired Chiavari’s attractions are Palazzo di Giustizia (Palace of Justice), the church of La Nostra Signora dell'Orto (Our Lady of the Garden) and the Palazzo Rocca that houses an important art gallery. Chiavari is full of boutiques and traditional workshops and we recommend you take heed of the production of the typical “chiavarine” chairs.
