Todi
Italy

The town of Todi belongs to the best Umbria’s attractions. It is perched on a 400 meters hill that overlooks the River Tibet. Todi is... surrounded by 3 sets of walls – Etruscan, Roman and “new” Medieval walls, all three proving the rich town’s history. Legend says that Todi was built by Hercules, but archeological excavations confirm that Umbri people established their residence here in about the 8th century BC. The heart of this town is Piazza del Popolo and almost all Todi's main medieval monuments – the appealing cathedral Il Duomo, the Palazzo del Capitano, the Palazzo del Priore and the Palazzo del Popolo — front on this main square. Todi is also very famous for the cookery and healthy local food so Buon appetito!

Carsulae Archaeological Site
Italy

75 min

Simply said the site is a must see. It is a fascinating walk into the history through a large archaeological site that takes approximately 2... hours. Carsulae was a medium-size city, built in the 3rd century BC as part of the Roman colonization of Umbria. At its zenith the city developed many important structures such as thermal baths, theaters, temples and other amenities. Despite its progress, the city was abandoned and never resettled and it is unknown to this day why. Interesting and specific architectural remains that visitors can explore are the amphitheater, remnants of the forum, the 9th century church of Saints Cosma and Damiano as well as a small museum that is home to a big, almost life sized, lion which symbolizes the inevitability of death.

Tivoli
Italy

Tivoli is home to two world-famous attractions: Villa Adriana, a large archaeological complex extending over 80 hectares and dotted with several Roman ruins once used... as a retreat for Roman Emperors; and villa d’Este, a 16th-century villa especially famous for the fabulous gardens surrounding the building. This landscape is so surreal that it seems not to have been created by humans, but by nature itself. It is recommended to visit also Villa Gregoriana, a park located at the feet of the town’s ancient acropolis.
