Tarnow
Poland

Bearing the nickname “Pearl of the Polish Renaissance” the town of Tarnow exudes many cultural and architectural charms. It is a town of long history... that is best reflected in a well-preserved medieval Old Town that features the celebrated Gothic Cathedral, a scenic market square, and the beautiful Town Hall. The eastern part of the Old Town was traditionally the Jewish district. However, because of the WWII the Jewish community does not exist anymore in Tarnow, although once this population made up nearly half the city. There are also some points of interest outside the immediate town center like the Old Jewish Cemetery and two Gothic wooden churches.

Step into the magical underground place where you will find a labyrinth of tunnels, wonderful sculptures and three chapels with altarpieces among which the chapel... of Saint Kinga is one of the greatest wonders of Poland. It was built by the miners and literally every part, from chandeliers to altarpieces, is made of salt, even the floor. Other wonders of this fantastic place are the salt lake, whose water contains 320 g of salt per liter, a spa and wellness center. The spa is said to be excellent for treating respiratory illnesses due to the atmosphere inside. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is the only site in the world where mining has been continued since the Middle Ages and as such it represents the embodiment of technological human progress.

Wisnicz Castle
Poland

Due to the constant expansions and reconstructions, this originally simple 14th century castle has been transformed into a peculiar blend of architectural styles. Wisnicz Castle... was almost completely destroyed during the Swedish invasion who invaded Poland in the period now known as the “Potop” (flood) and the invaders had taken out of the castle 150 wagon-loads of loot. Nonetheless, after World War II renovations were carried out and today this castle is considered as one of the country’s most beautiful castles. In the renovated interiors there is an exhibition of the castle’s history, a collection of copper vessels, models of Polish castles, and the sarcophagus of Stanislaus Lubomirski.
