Novi Sad is an easygoing and creative city that invites you to get to know better all its quirks, whether the historic ones, or artistic... or entertainment events. It is home to many museums, art galleries and cafes and bars where locals cheerfully mix with visitors. In its historic center you can enjoy some of the magnificent buildings of various architectural styles and numerous elegant religious edifices. Novi Sad is especially proud of the Petrovaradin fortress, which is considered its most notable symbol. The city became particularly famous among young people because of the EXIT festival, one of the best music events in Europe. It is an annual music event held continuously since the year 2000.

Avala Tower
Serbia

At the time of its completion in 1965, the Avala TV tower was the fifth tallest self-supporting building in the world. A few decades later... however, its glory was brought to a halt due to a NATO air strike that got the whole of Belgrade on its feet. Fast forward five years and many fundraising events have been held and the site was finally cleared and crowned with a new tower to commemorate the lost one. It was reopened in 2008, again being the tallest construction in the Balkans. Besides modern elevators and many contemporary technologies, it’s also important to note that the tower does not stand directly on the ground – instead its base is formed by a tripod to symbolize the Serbian tripod chair.

In the midst of the Bosnian War, during the Siege of Sarajevo that lasted for 4 years, the people of Sarajevo were trapped and starving,... living in their basements. In 1993 the Bosnian army built the Sarajevo Tunnel known as the Tunnel of Hope. The purpose of the tunnel was to deliver food and supplies to those in need. The 800 meters long, 1 m wide, 1.6 meters high tunnel was the city's lifeline to the outside world. Historians estimate that more than 1 million trips were taken through the tunnel and about 20 million tons of food were transported through here. Today, about 20 meters of tunnel are part of a museum which contains a collection of objects, archival documents and authentic video material made during the time of the Siege of Sarajevo.
