Admont Abbey
Austria

What a divine place not only for book lovers but for anybody looking for some escape from the fast-paced world! If you will be not... overwhelmed by its exterior (which for sure you will) you will be awed once you step inside. With its 70,000 volumes and magnificent frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte, and art collections, this captivating place truly seems like a fairyland. The art collections are divided in two parts: Historical and Modern Art. If the largest monastic library in the world doesn’t take your breath away, than perhaps you should take a peek in the Natural History Museum with over 250,000 insect specimens.

Franzensburg
Austria

135 min

Unlike other castles, Franzensburg does not dominate its surroundings from hilltop, but it stands in the middle of a lake, thus to access it one... must take a short ferry ride. Franzensburg got its name from its creator, the Emperor Franz II, who in fact built this marvelous edifice as an imitation of medieval castle. Hard to believe, because it seems truly authentic with its dungeon, chapel and coronation room, which all can be viewed. This is all owing to the fact that original medieval architectural features, that today ornate the castle, were collected from monasteries and churches, palaces and town halls throughout the Empire.
