The capital of the Slovak Republic and its political, cultural and economic center is... home to several universities, museums, theaters, galleries, concert halls, cinemas and many diverse restaurants. For its baroque and Gothic palaces, plazas and museums scattered in the Old Town, Bratislava is often called a “Mini-Vienna on the Danube”. Fortunately, Bratislava is a rather compact city and a great part of city’s sightseeing can be done in a one day visit.

Devin castle
Slovakia

If you find yourself in or near Bratislava, don’t miss the trip to the Castle of Devin! Today a ruin, but its history goes way... back to the Middle Ages, when it was used as a boundary fortress, military station and a trade center. Perhaps the most important thing linked to this historical site is the fact that Slovakia’s patron saints Cyril and Methodius started their mission here in 863. They were the ones who developed the first Slavonic alphabet, translated the Bible and wrote the first Slavic Civil Code.

Gyor is a beautiful and charming town that hosts a vast array of architectural, cultural and natural treasures and has therefore received the European Award... for its contribution to the protection of historical heritage. The reminders of an eventful history can be seen in its well reconstructed Baroque center, full of narrow lanes, museums, palaces and churches. The Bishop's Cathedral on Kaptalan Hill, although beautiful from the outside, it’s more important for the fascinating sacred objects that it houses, among which the reliquary of Szent Laszlo I (St. Ladislaus I), king of Hungary who reigned between 1077 and 1095. Another church worth exploring is the 17th century Baroque Benedictine Church. The pride of the city is Becsi kapu ter (Vienna Gate Square), considered by many as the most delightful Baroque square in Hungary.
