Makarska
Croatia

105 min

Makarska is a favorite tourist destination for both, Croatians and foreigners. This is the reason why it can get quite busy in summer, but that... is also the reason why Makarska has a vibrant scene of restaurants and cafes, lots of shops and sites to see. The town residents are mostly proud of their many beautiful pebble beaches with pine trees and crystal blue waters. The most intriguing site in town is the Franciscan monastery that hosts an exquisite contemporary mosaic and a delicate shell museum which claims to have the largest collection of snails, shells and mussels in the world.

Blue Lake
Croatia

Although Adriatic coast has many beauties to boast with, we recommend driving a bit off the beaten track and discovering something truly magical – the... Red and Blue Lakes. Both lakes are located near the town of Imotski. Lying in a deep sinkhole, these lakes have impressive dimensions which actually make them some of the largest sinkhole lakes in the world. The Blue Lake got its name from the crystal blue waters, while the Red Lake’s name comes from the red stones surrounding it. Both lakes are stunning natural phenomenon and great attractions. However, there is one more curiosity linked to the Blue Lake – during the hot summer season this lake completely disappears and the dry base becomes a football pitch. If you are lucky enough, you may be enjoying the annual football match between the Elves and the Werewolves on the flat lake basin.

Arboretum is the ideal place to reflect and relax. This protected natural monument has existed almost incessantly from the late 15th century. The only two... times when this serenity was almost destroyed was in 1991 during the attacks of the Yugoslav People's Army which, unfortunately, destroyed a large part of it and in 2000 in a forest fire when Arboretum again was severely damaged. However, today Arboretum is mostly restored and opened for visitors so don’t miss to take a walk around the oldest renaissance garden in Dalmatia.

Museum of Alka in Sinj
Croatia

75 min

The Museum of Alka is dedicated to more than 300 years old tradition and one of Croatia’s most renowned pieces of heritage. The museum’s purpose... is to preserve and educate new generations about the Alka identity. The exhibition is very rich and genuine, with the traditional regalia and original artifacts and all explanations in English and Croatian. Alka is a religious procession and an equestrian competition held every year in remembrance of the brave Christian knights, merely 700 of them, who defended the town from 60,000 Ottoman soldiers on August 14th in 1715. It was believed that the knights were victorious due to the help of Lady of Sinj and thus on August 15th every year a procession of horsemen and equestrian competition are held throughout the town in her honor. The equestrian competition is quite unique as horsemen ride at full gallop and try to get their lances through a hanging metal ring.
