This large stone structure was built in the early 13th century and from then it had a very turbulent history. First it had a very... important role in defending the town from the Hungarians, but afterwards the castle was conquered by the Turks and finally the Austrians burnt the castle down on two occasions - in 1697 and again in 1717. The castle is today completely open to the public and offers some great 360 degrees views of the city.

He was one of the leaders for Bosnia’s independence from Ottoman Empire; therefore this fort has a great historic importance for Bosnian people.
