Pomposa Abbey
Italy

75 min

This historic spot, often overlooked by tourists, is a true hidden gem. Few of those lucky enough to have stumbled to this unexpected delight, were... rewarded by many discoveries. First of all, this is where Benedictine monk, Guido d’Arezzo, in the early 11th century invented the modern musical notation – a system of lines, clef signs, and colors which transformed music into information. Furthermore, the Romanesque Abbey of Pomposa is garnished with a 12th-century mosaic and church frescoes are quite amazing and well worth seeing. And finally, the interior walls are decorated with stunning paintings done by Vitale da Bologna, Giotto’s pupil.

Due to its canals and bridges, Comacchio is fairly named “Little Venice”. Take time to wander through the picturesque heart of the city and immerse... yourself in the history of this town with character. Two points that shouldn’t be missed are Museo della Nave Romana and La Manifattura dei Marinati.

The charm of Chioggia lies in the fact that it is an unpretentious town although it has many beautiful features, such as a gorgeous beach,... ancient origins, several churches among which also the grand Cathedral, and two museums - the Museo Diocesano d’Arte Sacra and the Museo della Laguna Sud. Just like Venice, it was built on canals and it is full of character, but there are no crowds, so visitors can fully and peacefully enjoy in sightseeing. Chioggia is also a fishing town with great offer of fresh fish in numerous restaurants. Just by walking down the narrow streets with colorful tall houses, you’ll be able to soak in the unspoiled authenticity and the local way of life.
