Goms Suspension Bridge
Switzerland

45 min

An unexpected surprise waits for tourists passing through Bellwald and Ernen areas. The Goms Suspension Bridge is a fantastic structure and a real fun to... cross. The bridge connects Furgangen and Muhlebach villages, crossing the river Rhone which flows through the steep and narrow Lamma Gorge. It was open in 2015 and due to its dimensions (a length of 280 meters and a height of 92 meters) it soon became a main tourist attraction in this region. Another reason why this area is often visited is the scenic village of Ernen whose square is rich with historic buildings and Tell frescoes dating from 1578.

If you are in the area, Saint Martin’s Church in Zillis is a must. Know also as the Sistine Chapel of the Alps, this church... is famous for its painted ceiling dating to the 12th century. The ceiling consists of 153 painted panels made more than 900 years ago and is still unique in the world. These wooden squares depict mythical images, Biblical scenes and life of Christ and episodes from the life of St Martin of Tours. Should you need more info about the church and its ceiling paintings, you may visit the museum that, among other things, shows how the picture panels were created.

Albula Railway Museum
Switzerland

The Albula line was once quite an ambitious project to shorten a 14 hour stage-coach trip into an impressive 2 hour ride anyone could squeeze... into their busy day – and it succeeded admirably as the Rhaetian station is today listed as an UNESCO site. There are many multi-media exhibitions that show how has history made its mark on a seemingly simply railway line. This alpine marvel still continues to amaze and take its visitors breath away with each single inch being incorporated into an exhibit to interest many wandering eyes.

Mesocco Castle
Switzerland

60 min

The ruins of Mesocco Castle cover the entire top of a small mountain with its irregular pentagon walls. These walls proved unassailable as there were... many attempts to seize the castle in the past, but it was never conquered. The walls connect 5 towers and inside are the remains of the Church of St. Carpoforo. There is another church below the castle, the Church of Santa Maria al Castello, which was first mentioned in the 13th century. It is adorned with well-preserved Late Romanesque frescoes from the workshop of Seregnesi.

Bellinzona
Switzerland

135 min

A visit to Bellinzona provides a wonderful opportunity to understand the life of the nobility who lived here centuries ago. Along its picturesque alleys and... squares stand richly decorated patrician houses, beautiful churches and theaters. Yet, the most impressive sight of Ballinzona is the city’s triple fortification that was built first by the Romans and then extended in the Middle Ages by the Dukes of Lombardy. The oldest and mightiest castle of this fortification is the Castelgrande from where one may enjoy breathtaking views of the Old Town and surrounding area.
