The amazing Bastei rock formation is one of the most unique landscapes in Saxon Switzerland. It is also most popular viewing point with around 1.5 million visitors each year. This surreal beauty is attributed to the deep gorge carved out from the Elbe River that runs almost 200 m below. The Bastei Bridge that is connecting some of the rocks is about 75 m long and it was built in 1851 to replace the original wooden bridge from 1824.
