About Anghiari
Thanks to its smart location, the once Roman vineyard played quite an important role during the medieval times. In 1440 the infamous Anghiari battle took place in the valley near the Tiber River and the said town, with an importance so great it caught the eye of Leonardo Da Vinci who payed homage to it in the form of a Florentine fresco. Unfortunately, Leonardo’s wandering and curious spirit used some rather unsuitable techniques which deteriorated this artistic gem, but you can still relive the tale by visiting a museum dedicated to the battle. There is also a notable wooden Madonna in the center of the town, as well as a 16th table organ.
