About Ascoli Piceno
After quite a turbulent relationship with Rome, Ascoli Piceno became an intriguing tourist site situated at the confluence of two rivers. Inside the city itself, there is an 18th century Baroque Church, along with the Gothic style San Francesco Church with a belonging convent. There are many Roman ruins to signify the intense relationship with the Empire, such as the Porta Gemina gate, an ancient and yet still so enchanting theater. For those not so keen on ancient cultures there are also a few fine examples of medieval architecture. And after a day of site-seeing and emerging oneself into the immense history and culture this charming place has to offer, visitors can enjoy a colorful local specialty – meat-stuffed, deep-fried olives.
