About Polirone Abbey
The Polirone Abbey will surely carry you back to the medieval era as you wander through the centuries of culture. Rising in a quiet and serene countryside setting, the Abbey of San Benedetto in Polirone is dominating the central square of one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”. It is definitely a great way to spend an afternoon. Best of all, few seem to know about it or visit it which makes this place especially serene. The abbey is full of historic details, including a rare 11th century candelabra in the church, but perhaps the best of all is the a large fresco by Caravaggio depicting mythological characters and people from the Old Testament, discovered only in 1980.
