About Torba Abbey
Torba Monastery has served many different purposes over the years of its existence – from being a Roman fortress against barbarian attacks to various military uses in following centuries and finally a Benedictine monastery in the 8th century. The tower’s bottom floor was used as a tomb and it features the remains of old frescoes from different eras, the mysterious “faceless nuns" being the most impressive ones.
