About Croatian Martyrs Church
During one of his visits to Croatia, Pope John Paul II blessed the stone that was to be used for the church’s future altar. Some years later, the first service was held inside the church in 2010. It was raised to pay homage to the country’s exciting and sometimes so tragic history, most notably to the unfortunate Battle of Krbava against the Ottomans. This contemporary building offers a breath-taking view over the once fighting field and its stunning mountains. Above the entrance, there is a simple and yet so strong inscription: Martiribus croatorum – Hrvatskim mučenicima (To Croatian Martyrs). This church is truly incomparable in its features, and is sure to leave any visitor at awe.
