About Tepla Abbey
The imposing Teplá abbey complex is a national historic landmark. It was founded in 1193 by the beatified Bohemian nobleman Hroznata. The Tepla Monastery underwent numerous renovations and even today some parts of the abbey are under reconstruction. The dominant feature of the monastery complex is the Romanesque-Gothic Church of the Annunciation. However, the crown jewel of the monastery is the monastic library with the second biggest monastic collection in the Czech Republic. Of great value is also the church’s high altar that was sculpted in 1750. The church also features Hroznata’s reliquary casket.
