About Gyongyos
The town of Gyongyos was built in attractive natural surroundings, at the gateway to the Matra Mountains. Although this city was severely devastated by fire in 1917, it managed to preserve its important Gothic and Baroque monuments such as the massive, 14th century St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Other points of interest are the Matra Museum that provides an insight on local history and hunting (there’s even a mammoth skeleton!) and the Art Deco synagogue.
