About Vajont Dam
When constructed, in 1959, the Vajont Dam was among the largest dams in the world. In 1963, a landslide happened and a large rock fell into the reservoir creating an immense wave that caused flooding of the villages and killing almost 2000 people. Although intact by the disaster, today Vajont is a disused dam, but it features a museum that commemorates the Vajont Dam tragedy.
