About Virpazar
First being referred to as ‘Vir’, the Ottomans marked the territory as their own with the still present Besac castle. After the Turks’ defeat in the 18th century, the town prospered in trading and became Virpazar, with ‘pazar’ (marketplace) to signify its importance in the county. There is a massive stone monument in the tragic memory of the Second World War which also took place there. The city itself is centred around the small and yet so charming town square. On Fridays you can see the bustling market, while on other days you can still enjoy many local products after touring the Besac castle and the panoramic view around you.
