About Sasso San Gottardo
Sasso San Gottardo offers not one but two unique experiences: a walk through the heart of the Alps and a visit to the military fortress transformed into a museum. During World War II, the Swiss secretly excavated kilometers of tunnels high above the St. Gotthard pass where visitors today can ride an underground funicular and, besides the fortress, visit also the “World of Crystals” that displays lighted giant crystal formations. Warm clothes and comfortable shoes are recommended since the tunnels are cold and there are some stairs to climb.
