About Blue Lake

Both lakes are located near the town of Imotski. Lying in a deep sinkhole, these lakes have impressive dimensions which actually make them some of the largest sinkhole lakes in the world. The Blue Lake got its name from the crystal blue waters, while the Red Lake’s name comes from the red stones surrounding it. Both lakes are stunning natural phenomenon and great attractions. However, there is one more curiosity linked to the Blue Lake – during the hot summer season this lake completely disappears and the dry base becomes a football pitch. If you are lucky enough, you may be enjoying the annual football match between the Elves and the Werewolves on the flat lake basin.
