About Fort Bard
With its ominous and sever look Fort Bard dominates the town of Bard and represents the most impressive example of military architecture. It was neglected for many years but luckily restored and reopened for tourists in 2006. Today it attracts thousands of visitors a year. How unconquerable this fortress really is proves the fact that the castle’s garrison of 400 people was able to hold back 40,000 French troops for full 2 weeks. Besides the stunning views, visitors can learn more about the fortress through a guided tour and at the Museum of the Alps.
