About Issogne Castle

High quality hoto of Issogne Castle - Italy

This elegant Renaissance castle is situated on the right bank of the Dora Baltea, in the centre of the Alpine town of Issogne. The first documentation of the Issogne Castle dates from the mid 12th century but it reached the zenith of splendor throughout the 15th and 16th centuries when George of Challant transformed it into a magnificent residence. At the very entrance visitors are welcomed by the famous wrought-iron pomegranate tree fountain, which is, along with the superb frescoes on the portico, of an extraordinary expressive value. There is so much for visitors to discover here: from the ground floor dining room and kitchen, the first floor chapel with decorated arch vaults and Gothic altar, and the second floor rooms with beautifully covered ceilings and furniture of that time.
