About Hallein Salt Mine
The Hallein salt mine was dug by the ancient Celts over 2500 years ago and it was open for public 450 years ago for the first time. But, what’s truly amazing about this mine is that it hasn’t lost any of its magical appeal to this day. Visitors enter the mine on a mine train and after the fun ride they can slide down one of the two miner’s slides to get to the amazing subterranean salt lake where they can take a silent boat ride. The tour of the mine is both fun and educational as visitors learn all about miners’ lives and the conditions they had to endure while working here.
