About Zelena Hora Monastery
The Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelena Hora is an extraordinary church that has a 5 point star structure and thus it has 5 entrances, 5 altar niches, 5 chapels, 5 stars and 5 angels on the high altar. The symbol of 5 is linked to 5 wounds of Christ on the cross and five virtues of the martyr St John of Nepomuk. The church was built in 1720 in Baroque in style, but has many Gothic elements, while the interior is quite minimalist that evokes mysticism. Due to its unique architecture the church was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994.
