About Werfen Ice Caves
The visit to the world’s biggest ice cave, Werfen Ice Caves, is truly a must. Extending to more than 42 km deep into the mountain the cave is full of tall and impressive stalagmite collections and the biggest attraction is a monumental 25 meter tall ice formation called the Great Ice Embankment. Ice palaces of surreal beauty, passageways and galleries all bear evocative names like “Diamond Kingdom” or “Ice Palace”. Visitors can either hike or take the steepest gondola lift in Austria to the cave entrance. It goes without mentioning that warm clothes should be worn! The cave is open to public from May to October.
