It is said that the lovely town of Kalocsa was founded in the year 1000 by the King Stephen the Saint. Today it is best known for its historical buildings like St. Mary’s Cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace and for the production of exquisite paprika. Being situated in the midst of a fertile land Kalocsa has a long agricultural tradition which resulted in a long and successful production of paprika that in this town even has its own museum – the Paprika museum, located in the center of the town. Another great museum is The Karoly Viski Museum with the rich exhibition of coins, a collection of traditional costumes, a collection of ancient documents that reflect the history of the city, and a library of approximately 10,000 volumes.
